Overview / Job Summary

Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China.


We are seeking a high energy, motivated Human Resources Generalist to become a trusted HR partner for managers and employees.  This hands-on role is critical to support the delivery of HR programs, services and activities to our North America Rolled Products business and Corporate functions.  This role  will be based in our Beachwood, OH global headquarters location and will provide support to Aleris managers and employees across the Human Resources disciplines.

Responsibilities Include

  • Follow and be a champion for all Aleris HSE processes and practices.
  • Provide HR support for assigned client groups, North America and Corporate.
  • Provide advice and service to all levels of the organization on employee relations, engagement, and talent management process.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and implement programs to improve employee engagement and business outcomes.
  • Partner with corporate functions to administer and improve corporate programs.
  • Partner with the talent acquisition team to lead the process to attract high performing candidates. 
  • Participate in recruitment activities including strategy meetings, posting, interviewing, candidate selection and offer.  Understand and effectively utilize the applicant tracking system.
  • Champion the recognition and reward program. Drive and support utilization by Beachwood and Irving employees.
  • Lead Affirmative Action data collection process on an annual basis.  Participate in report out meetings and ensure recruitment strategies are employed.
  • Execute and administer company policies and procedures. 
  • Compile and update monthly NA HR Metrics report. Review data for accuracy and trends. Proactively resolve any discrepancies with the NA HR team.
  • Participate or lead HR projects and/or process development related to policy development, talent management, organizational effectiveness.
  • Facilitate training sessions both formal and informal for managers and employees.
  • Perform the following HR activities for Beachwood, Irving and remote employees.
  • Conduct all new hire orientations and onboarding.   Make recommendations for improvements.
  • Conduct exit interviews and execute all termination processes including Oracle data and systems access
  • Maintains/updates employee data in Oracle HRIS and hard copy files.  Run reports as needed. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all information inputted.
  • Partner with benefits team on FMLA and other leaves of absences.
  • Primary contact for all unemployment claims processing and hearings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A four year degree, preferably in human resources or business.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Human Resources role.
  • Demonstrated understanding/knowledge of the fundamental aspects of human resources processes and compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills.  Must be able to assess data for trends and situations for facts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Business Applications software. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, written, verbal, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Quick learner with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to present/speak effectively before groups of employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal employments laws
