Overview / Job Summary

Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.

 

Our North America division is seeking to add a talented Maintenance & Engineering Manager to its team at our Clayton, NJ facility. The purpose of this role is to lead and manage the Maintenance and Engineering functions. 

Responsibilities Include

  • Being a role model for safety; demonstrates behaviors that align with the Aleris safety principles and holds the team accountable for results.
  • Ensure the equipment and facility operate safely by complying with Aleris HSE standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures. 
  • Implements processes that reveal safety hazards and develops sustainable corrective actions.
  • Develop and execute an overall maintenance and engineering strategy to deliver operational stability and maximize plant productivity.
  • Planning, scheduling, and executing capital projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes accruing resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.
  • Direct and manage project development from beginning to end, and oversee quality control throughout the project implementation cycle.
  • Develop and initiate yearly department operations plan. Draft and submit budget proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes when necessary.
  • Re-assess and re-direct maintenance and engineering efforts and focus towards improved reliability, quality, and reducing operating cost.
  • Lead the efforts of root cause failure analysis with recommended solutions.
  • Implement the necessary tools and systems to efficiently manage preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and general work orders at the facility.
  • Set and communicate clear performance standards and hold direct reports accountable for results.
  • Continuously improve the efficient use of financial and human resources in the performance of duties.
  • Provide a climate of constancy, trust and employee involvement.
  • Develop the capabilities of all engineering and maintenance employees through effective training, performance reviews, potential appraisals and provide for opportunities to maximize potential.
  • Engages team to drive a continuous improvement culture by utilizing the Aleris Operating System.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent required; 10 years minimum heavy manufacturing experience. Experience in the aluminum industry strongly preferred.
  • PLC, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning and organizing, time management, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques essential.
  • Ability to set a long term strategy along with managing short term objectives.
  • Ability to instill a sense of purpose and inspire actions in others.
  • Ability to assist team members through clear task assignment, feedback, and development planning.
  • Ability to bring together the appropriate people and information to make timely, effective decisions.
  • Ability to solve problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of the issues involved.
  • Ability to achieve results, manage multiple tasks and objectives in parallel and manage the technical and social issues associated with change.
