  • Overview / Job Summary

    Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.  We are currently seeking a talented Plant Metallurgist at our Rolling Mill located in Uhrichsville Ohio.

    Responsibilities Include

    Purpose of the role:

     

    To contribute to the development and maintenance of metallurgical practices and products by assisting in the resolution of metallurgical problems and quality issues. To provide technical support to enable the Aleris Uhrichsville facilities to maintain focus towards customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

     
    Core accountabilities:
    1. Perform tasks and execute behavior in a manner that supports safety to yourself and others working with you.
    2. Provide coordinated and optimized standard metallurgical practices to production planning system. Establish simple, cost-effective, robust Standard Metallurgical Practices.
    3. Maintain Uhrichsville's manufacturing capabilities system (machine capabilities and product availability) in order to answer customer inquiries for items currently outside Aleris Ohio Operations’ list of availabilities.
    4. Maintain the Non-Conforming Product (NCP) system plant wide by working with the Material Review Board (MRB) to contain, review, investigate and disposition all non-conforming product and suspect product.
    5. Maintain a system for reporting and analyzing the hold activity information for any non-conforming products placed on hold.
    6. Manage the Lab Anneal activities performed by the Laboratory Technicians; review the lab anneal work as needed to determine and assign production anneal practices.
    7. Investigate customer complaints in cooperation with the Product Engineer, Inside Sales Representatives (ISR’s), and Uhrichsville plant personnel. Communicate customer complaint information and activities to the Technical Manager and the Plant personnel.
    8. Assist in development and the maintenance of the NRM Defect Standard system used for assisting operators with rating quality non-conformities. Continue to develop Defect Standards for product non-conformities currently not identified. Provide specific and continuing training for operators in use of the Defect Standard system.
    9. Provide metallurgical advice and assistance to the Rolling & Finishing Supervisors; Casting, Rolling & Finishing TA's; colleagues within the Uhrichsville Operations.

    Required Qualifications

    Education & Expeience:

     

    Required

    A minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering is required.

    A minimum of 1 to 3 years related Metallurgical experience in aluminum, steel or similar industry is required.

    A minimum of 1 to 3 years working in a heavy industrialized/manufacturing environment is required.

     

    Preferred

    Master's Degree or higher in Metallurgical Engineering is preferred.
