  • Overview / Job Summary

    Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China.  We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.  Our North America division is seeking to add a talented Quality Manager to its team at our Clayton, NJ facility to provide leadership and management to the technical, and quality areas to enable achievement of safety, quality, product development, throughput, recovery and cost goals.  Successful candidate will also provide direction to achieve continuous improvement in product quality and productivity including ISO9001:2015 quality management system.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Ensure all technical and quality activities comply with Aleris HSE standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures.
    • Ensure that overall safety, safe work practices and safety initiatives remain the number one priority at all times.
    • Analyze equipment and operational issues to optimize product quality, minimize plant downtime as well as maximizing plant productivity.
    • Manage the entire ISO9001:2015 quality management system, including: parameters set forth by the standard, and plant level ISO resources.
    • Lead direct and support plant quality lab functions and resources.
    • Drive cost reduction (productivity) projects and participate on improvement teams in the areas of safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and recovery.
    • Direct and manage pre-defined projects from beginning to end, overseeing quality throughout the project implementation cycle.
    • Provide quality and timely engineering technical support, communication and advice concerning various quality, product development, productivity, and process improvement tasks and projects.
    • Develop, refine, recommend, optimize and sustain rolling, annealing, and finishing practices as well as work with inside and outside sales on the establishment of packaging and shipping procedures to support cost, quality, productivity initiatives.
    • Good customer relationship building skills, both internal and external.
    • Provide technical support to customers based on a detailed level of knowledge on customer processes and general product requirements, this may include customer visits.
    • Respond promptly to any new or changed technical requirements or product specifications and assure fitness for use of the product supplied.
    • Lead, investigate, and respond promptly to all claim and customer corrective action activities related to processing issues at the customer.
    • Support and participate in all continuous improvement (AOS) initiatives.
    • Complete all required paperwork on a timely basis.
    • Ensure operations work within the parameters created by the ISO9001:2015 quality management system.
    • Provide support as required to the operation by performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor Degree in Technical/Engineering field, preferably in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science, plus 5+ years related industry experience in process, technical, quality, and/or engineering areas.
    • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
    • Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
    • Process knowledge of aluminum operations and application of SPC, computer literacy, and proficient arithmetic abilities.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
    • Work with a sense of urgency daily.
    • Ability to provide clear task assignments, create a shared understanding of strategic direction, promote a sense of purpose, and inspire motivation.
    • Ability to create, present, and train others, both internal and external, on role specific topics.
    • Ability to bring together appropriate people and information to make timely, effective decisions.
    • Ability to work in conceptual and theoretical project design and for the creation of improved systems.
    • Ability to use logic, math and data to support strategic plans and tactical initiatives.
    • Ability to achieve results, manage multiple tasks and objectives and to manage change.
    • Willing to provide constructive feedback, provide information clearly and generate solutions.

     

    Preferred:

    • Experience working with manufacturing based technology, processes and principles and knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma and ISO9001:2015. Greenbelt or blackbelt certified, a plus.
    • Ability to learn new software packages quickly and apply knowledge to daily tasks and projects.
    • Ability to demonstrate effective team leadership and team membership skills.
