  • Overview / Job Summary

     Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China.  We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods. 


    Our Quality Department is seeking to add a talented Lab Technician to its manufacturing Quality Lab at our Clayton, NJ facility.  The purpose of this role is to safely, efficiently, and effectively provide specific testing of aluminum material to ensure quality products are provided to our customers.


    Pay and Benefits

    Evening shift position (6pm – 6am) with starting hourly rate $17.90, plus applicable shift premium.  Top rate after one full year, $21.19 per hour. Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k w/company match, and quarterly bonus program opportunity of 5% of gross wages.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with Aleris HSE standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures. Achieving personal safety performance objectives.
    • Performs timely and expedient testing on aluminum, including physical properties and coatings. This testing involves the use of lab equipment, solvents, and acids.  
    • Demonstrates ability to absorb, interpret, and process a variety of data while performing multiple tasks.
    • Responsible for making decisions relative to product release based on interpretation of test results and quality data.
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision, maintain a positive attitude, and be a team player.  
    • Supports and participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Maintains accurate, legible and timely lab records.
    • Conducts select inventories, dock audits, and sheet checks.
    • Completes Preventative Maintenance Requirements by inspecting equipment for potential problems and, if necessary, completing maintenance work order.
    • Maintains quality by following organizational ISO9001:2015 standards.
    • Provides support as required to the operation by performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    • Requires frequent standing, walking to, in or about Mill Production area to obtain, check/verify material.
    • Perform basic math calculations
    • Must have good verbal, and written communication skills
    • Must have ability to enter and analyze data on a computer
    • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
    • Possess ability to see color
    • Must be able to work any hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays as scheduled/required.
