  • Overview / Job Summary

    Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China.  We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods. Our Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking to add talented manufacturing personnel to our team at the Davenport, Iowa Finishing Plant.

     

    Our Plant Utilities receive a base pay of $18.18/hour, along with opportunity to bid for other positions as they become available. All employees are eligible for competitive medical, dental and vision insurance which begins first of the month after 30 days of working. We also offer 401K, including Company contribution, paid holidays and vacation.

    Responsibilities Include

    This position provides material handling support for the manufacturing departments and acts as a relief operator when necessary due to specific production needs, for unexpected absences, and vacations. While this is an entry level position, it is an ideal stepping stone to other job opportunities as one of the main functions of this job is being transferred into higher level job classifications to support manufacturing operations.  Job responsibilities include:

    • Is knowledgeable and follows plant safety rules and departmental safety practices.
    • Material handling services for the following work centers:
      • Cold Mill
      • Annealing
      • Tension Line
      • Herr Voss, Yoder, and Stamco slitters
      • Coil Coating
    • Provides assistance and break relief to Coil Finishing Operators at the slitters and tension line.
      • Packs coils at slitting and tension lines.
      • Stretch wraps coils.
      • Expedites scrap handling in the work centers.
      • Expedites core preparation and handling in the work centers.
      • Performs lab sample overflow including physical test duties such as:
      • Annealing lab samples.
      • Sample inspection.
      • Oil collection and testing.
      • Filter press cycles.
    • Maintains housekeeping.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be a leader in safety. Is a safe worker who demonstrates concern for personal safety and safety of others. Must demonstrate a willingness to participate in plant safety initiatives.
      • A high school level education is required. Post high school education preferred.
      • Must be able to work as part of a team and be capable of self-direction.
      • Good verbal communication skills are required.
      • Basic computer and math skills are required.
      • Must be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
      • Must be capable and willing to train in other job classifications.
      • Good decision-making skills are required.
      • Must possess a basic knowledge of hand tools and possess a mechanical aptitude.
      • Previous manufacturing experience and material handling experience are preferred.
      • Must be flexible as job focus and assignments may change daily and by the hour.
