    Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.


    Our Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking to add a talented Quality Manager to its team located at our Ashville, Ohio facility. The purpose of this role is to lead the technical aspects of the continuous coil coating operations, slitting and fabrication relative to continuous improvement efforts, quality systems development, and paint supplier interface.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Identify, control, and improve critical process variables to help achieve paint line and fabrication goals.
    • Carry out work duties in such a manner that personal safety is maintained. Obey all plant safety rules, and take steps to correct any undesirable safety conditions.
    • Control and reduce costs consistent to KPI management.
    • Development measuring systems, current and future, to ensure product quality.
    • Work closely with Coated Products Supply Chain Manager (CPSCM), Product Engineers, Fabrication personnel and the sales organization to understand customer needs and translate that into improving customer satisfaction relative to coated products.
    • Work with the CPSCM and sales organization to identify proper paint systems per end uses for customer inquiries.
    • Investigate customer complaints and internal rejections. Recommend and initiate corrective actions, and disposition non-conforming painted material and fabricated products.
    • Administrate color matching and color control on the coating line.
    • To work in support of the development and implementation of the Aleris Operating System

    Required Qualifications

    • Required Qualifications:


    • Four-year technical degree; in lieu of a degree, four years of quality management experience.
    • Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and technical competence.
    • Background in safety leadership, problem solving, process analysis, control plant methodology, continuous improvement methodology, and project management preferred.
    • Ability to work cross functionally in the Business Unit with employees at all levels to provide safety and problem-solving leadership that creates trust and encourages the safe completion of successful coated products output and improvements to existing systems and processes.
    • Tasks are not always specified. Requires ability to make interpretations and identify tasks in process. Must be able to accumulate significant and reliable data, sort that data, and make diagnosis and initiate action to overcome immediate obstacles and to identify things that might indicate potential problems.
    • Ability to analyze significant issues and make judgments about approaches to improve coating process variables that lead to increased efficiency and quality of operations.
    •  Ability to use theoretical knowledge of fundamental scientific, engineering, math, or draft design principles and other analysis tools to solve problems encountered in existing quality systems and processes and to research suggested improvements or modifications to those systems and processes.
    • Ability to articulate and direct staff in employing standards and measurements to operate and control process variables. Ability to effectively apply Leadership Systems Models through symbols and behaviors that lead others to follow examples in improving performance and output.
    • Preferred

      • 5-8 years practical experience in rolling and / or coating operations preferred.

    Physical Demands

    Requires movement around plant environment, including walking, kneeling, and bending, occasion reaching with hands and arms, driving carts, and climbing of stairs to reach equipment and plant offices; lifting of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional travel required to other plant and vendor sites. Reasonable accommodations may be made to allow individuals with disabilities to perform tasks.


    Work Environment

    Part of work is accomplished in an air-conditioned plant office environment. Balance of work time requires working in an industrial environment where employee may be exposed to fumes airborne particles, overhead and other mobile equipment. Noise level in the industrial environment is loud.
