  • Overview / Job Summary

    Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.

     

    Our Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking to add a talented Sr. Metals Buyer to its Procurement team at our Casting facility in Davenport, IA. The purpose of this role is to purchase scrap units for the plant and manage the scrap accounts.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Purchase planned scrap metal requirements for Davenport, IA plant.
    • Manage supplier performance by tracking material deliveries to ensure that material is delivered according to the purchase contract due dates. Review and report to appropriate suppliers monthly statistics relative to performance against purchase orders specifications.
    • Inspect material that plant personnel have identified as potentially causing off grade analysis. Determine disposition relative to downgrade or rejected loads, and disseminate information to the appropriate suppliers.
    • Develop raw material sources through increased dealer supply base through first and second link supply chain opportunities. Execute purchase plan for scrap and RIS requirements within specified limitations through dealer transactions.
    • Stay apprised of appropriate market activity and intelligence by observing market trend and availability.
    • Utilize the approved model and “working together” principles in all aspects of your work and relationships.
    • Minimize Aleris' exposure to risk of loss by structuring all purchases consistent with approved policies and procedures.  Advise risk analysis of all purchases in a timely manner.
     

    Required Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • Strong decision making, problem solving, and computer skills; and the ability to learn quickly and work in fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; and recognize data needed in order to make decisions, collect that data, and analyze in order to determine direction in which to proceed.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
