  • Overview / Job Summary

    Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.

     

    Our Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking to add a talented Electrical Engineer to its Project Engineering team. The purpose of this role is to plan, manage, and implement capital, maintenance and upgrade projects to continuously improve the plant's electrical equipment, achieving specified measurable results, following all Aleris policies and governmental regulations.

    Responsibilities Include

    • Comply with all safety standards and regulations.
    • Direct and Manage project development form beginning to end, overseeing quality control throughout the project implementation cycle.
    • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
    • Establish and maintain project milestones including request for funding, engineering and design, procurement and installation. Coordinate internal and external labor forces to prep, install, and commission projects to achieve deliverables.
    • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making major adaptations and modifications to electrical equipment utilizing lean manufacturing techniques.
    • Assemble and review bid analyses and make recommendations as necessary.
    • Prepare and/or modify Electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, and graphs.
    • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members, contractors, and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
    • Build effective partnerships with plant personal throughout the implementation of small and major capital projects.
    • Provide technical training to all applicable personnel regarding electrical systems and functions.
    • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing tasks, promoting open communication with peers and providing updates to direct management.
    • Draft and submit budget proposals, recommend subsequent budget changes when necessary.
    • Lead the efforts of root cause failure analysis, with recommended solutions.
    • Utilize technical experience and knowledge to provide support to the plant maintenance, engineering, produciton and quality personnel.
    • Drive continuous improvement through implemenation of lean principles.
    • Maintain compliance with all Company and governmental regulations.

     

     

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Four-year degree in Engineering or Technology and at least 3 years’ progressive experience in a similar role in an industrial environment required.
    • Experience in the planning and execution of major capital projects.
    • Necessitates excellent interpersonal, planning and organizing, time management, and effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques.

     

    Preferrerd Qualifications

    • Experience with the maintenance of medium voltage power systems preferred.
    • Experience in the aluminum industry strongly preferred.
    • Experience in a union environment preferred.
