Overview / Job Summary

Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.

 

Our Rolled Products North America (RPNA) division is seeking to add a talented Technical Advisor in our <insert area> department. The purpose of this role is to provide technical advice and support to departmental staff in solving design, development, or modification problems with existing or new fundamental systems and processes within the policies and guidelines established by Aleris and government regulatory agencies

Responsibilities Include

 

  • Work in a safe and cooperative manner in accordance to HSE policies and procedures.
  • Support the implementation of HSE processes that reveal safety hazards, and develop sustainable corrective actions.
  • Investigate root causes of departmental defects, implement counter-measures, ensure accurate  
  • capture in Lewisport Quality System per ISO/TS requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement culture by utilizing AOS to improve product quality or processes in
  • the assigned area.
  • Identify, control and improve critical process variables to achieve departmental goals.
  • Control and reduce costs under Advisor’s management.
  • Develop appropriate standards and measurements for key input and output variables consistent with process control methodologies.
  • Advise area superintendents and supervisors in the implementation of process control standards and measurements.
  • Participate in the daily Material Review Board meeting, ensure compliance to MRB disposition requirements.
  • Work upstream and downstream with Technical Advisors to resolve product quality issues.
  • Provide input to planning groups regarding departmental production capabilities, costs, and other operating criteria.
  • Participate in the development of a long-term technology plan for the assigned area that supports the Business Unit’s strategic plan.
  • Lead development of 90 Day Quality Action Plans with department team, lead weekly Plan review
  • Participate in product or process “Trials” as required
  • Must be able to teach, coach, mentor problem solving skills to area staff
  • Lead development and management of Layered Process Audits in the department
  • Participate in development of Corrective Action Request response as necessary

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in line operations required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Proven technical competence and problem solving skills are a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in safety leadership, problem solving, process analysis, control plant methodology, continuous improvement methodology and project management preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline is strongly preferred.
