Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.

 

We are seeking to add a talented a IT MES Analyst to our Information Technology team at our facility in Clayton, NJ. The purpose of this role is to analyze, design, and implement systems and write program applications as required. This individual will develop, implement and support control automation projects and support the IT Department in daily operations and troubleshoot problems as they occur.

Responsibilities Include

  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with Aleris HSE standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Directly support the daily operations of the “MES Infrastructure” including analysis, design and implementation. Become a subject matter expert on plant data processes and customer needs. 
  • Responsible for quickly and accurately troubleshooting and resolving MES Infrastructure problems and be able to recognize critical system problems and react to prioritize accordingly.
  • Monitor functioning of equipment to ensure systems are operational.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance/Engineering team in identifying and resolving PLC problems and implement PLC controls.
  • Write program applications as required.
  • Resolve user, hardware and software related problems by utilizing root cause analysis techniques. Implement and monitor changes to ensure effectiveness.
  • Install, modify and make repairs to computer-related hardware and software and provide technical assistance and training to users.
  • Develop and/or update user training manuals and procedures which help in preparing our facility for ISO Quality System audits.
  • Increase knowledge and productivity through hands on experience, seminars, courses, manuals and magazines.
  • Assist with general IT controls and SOX audits.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Participates on Aleris Operating System (AOS) and continuous improvement teams and initiatives.
  • Provides support as required to the operation by performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or 5+ years of job experience; 2+ years manufacturing experience a plus; Information Technology; Programming and Analysis; User Interfaces; Troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
  • Experience with Visual Basic .NET, use of “classes”, controls and creation of DLL’s; SQL Server Databases, SQL Server and ADO.net; PLC programming; Windows Server 2003 & 2012, Windows 10, 8, 7 and XP; Proficient in Microsoft Office; AS400 experience a plus; Crystal Reports.
  • Understanding of Networking, LANs, WANs, Wi-Fi and the TCP/IP protocol.
  • Strong analytical and independent problem solving skills; Attention to detail; maintain and enhance code to meet user request and needs; strong interpersonal and partnering skills to develop working relationships with partners across operating business and support functions at site.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction; commitment to continuous improvement; effective writing, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Work with a sense of urgency. Understand and be able to communicate the strategic direction of the Clayton facility and Aleris.
  • Ability to bring together appropriate people and information to make timely, effective decisions. Must possess strong decision making and problem solving skills. Business partner with management team to ensure business strategy is being met and costs are being controlled.
  • Must have the confidence and ability to make decisions relating to the role’s accountabilities.
  • Ability to visualize, articulate and solve both complex and uncomplicated problems and concepts and make decisions that are sensible and based on available information. Demonstrate the ability to apply logical thinking to gathering and analyzing data, testing solutions, and formulating plans.
  • Ability to achieve results, manage multiple tasks and objectives and to manage change. Willing to provide constructive feedback, provide information clearly and generate solutions.
  • Ability to resolve systems problems outside normal business hours.
  • Domestic Travel up to 15%
